Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has threatened that failure by the United States to lift the arms embargo imposed on his country will have serious consequences, adding that US President Donald Trump made a stupid mistake by withdrawing from the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Rouhani said in his meeting with members of his government today, Wednesday, that the US administration must know very well that abolishing the arms embargo is a condition of the nuclear agreement, and if this does not happen, the consequences will be dire.

The Iranian President did not disclose the steps that his country would take in the event that the embargo was not lifted, but he said that what he would take would be outlined in a letter he sent to the leaders of the "5 + 1" group (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council in addition to Germany), and they know how heavy the results are.

Requirement and threat of an overwhelming response
, Rouhani added that if America wants to return to the agreement, it must lift all sanctions imposed on Tehran and compensate it for the resumption of sanctions, and "Iran's response will be overwhelming if the arms embargo imposed on it is extended."

And America withdrew from the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 in May 2018, which is the agreement signed between Iran and the (1 + 5) group, and imposed economic sanctions on Tehran.

The agreement provides for Tehran's commitment to abandon for a period of at least 10 years vital parts of its nuclear program and severely restrict it, with the aim of preventing it from possessing the ability to develop nuclear weapons, in exchange for lifting the sanctions imposed on it.

Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2018, citing that it did not include enough to limit Iran's missile program and influence in the Middle East.

On January 5, Iran announced that all its obligations under the nuclear agreement had been suspended, against the backdrop of the killing of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani in a US air strike in Iraq.
