The commission on social and economic reconstruction, agreed by Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Casado, will be constituted this Thursday in Congress with the expectation that the socialist deputy Patxi López will be elected president.

López, who chairs the Constitutional Commission , is the candidate proposed by the PSOE and although this non-permanent commission of the Chamber is the result of an agreement between popular and socialists, the latter are reserved to occupy the presidency.

With the mission of making proposals to face the economic and social crisis that the incidence of Covid-19 is already leaving in Spain , along with the tragic list of deceased, the commission is a derivation of a first offer of national agreement from the President of the Government, initially framed in new Pacts of the Moncloa -the great political consensus of 1977 to modernize Spain-, which was later reformulated as a party table for reconstruction. The PP proposed turning it into a parliamentary commission and Sánchez accepted it after a videoconference meeting with Casado.

That pact pointed to a certain understanding that has not been verified afterwards. The popular people want this forum to also serve to analyze the decisions taken by the coalition government in the fight against the coronavirus and the PSOE and United Podemos refuse. In fact, these two parties registered the creation of the commission outside the PP and it has not been possible to reach an agreement on the presidency.

The PP proposes Ana Pastor - he is like López a former president of Congress - and they defend that it is fair that a commission that is born from an agreement is chaired by the opposition. But everything indicates that who will be chosen this Thursday for the post will be the former Lehendakari .

The socialist is the majority group of the commission with 13 deputies, and will be followed by the PP with nine; Vox with five; United We can with four; ERC with one; the Plural with four; Cs with one; PNV with one; Bildu with one; and the Mixed with seven. The support of its investor partners guarantees -PNV, ERC, Compromís, Más País.- guarantees the PSOE and Podemos that López is appointed as president of a commission that will last two months, although he may extend his work.
