It was in October last year that the crime occurred at a residence in Linköping municipality. A 65-year-old man was then found with severe knife injuries in his home. He was operated on urgently, but his life could not be saved. The man died in December after suffering severe brain damage, which left the man unconscious until his death. Initially, three men were arrested on suspicion of murder, but in January it was clear that only one 42-year-old man remained in custody.

14 years in prison

Now Linköping's district court ruling has fallen against the man. He is sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder, despite his denial. According to the verdict, the elderly man was stabbed in the head so hard that the knife went off and the knife blade had to be removed during an operation.

For proof, the prosecutor relied on, among other things, testimony, technical evidence in the form of DNA traces, and evidence in the form of text messages.

Unclear motive

According to the district court, the investigation does not show with accuracy what the motive should have consisted of. But text messages showed that the 42-year-old was very angry with the older man.

The 42-year-old must also pay damages to the estate and relatives of the deceased 65-year-old.
