May 05, 2020 "I can confirm that our foreign policy line today is identical to yesterday's." With these words, the premier, Giuseppe Conte, replies to yesterday's interview in La Stampa by Mark Esper, US defense secretary on geopolitical alliances and relations with Russia and China. "Italy - says Conte also in this case to the Press , regarding the aid received by our country for the fight against coronavirus - at the moment of utmost necessity, asked for and received help from many countries. Among these there were also the China and Russia. We managed this aid in total transparency both towards our public opinion and towards our allies. "

And he adds: "What I can say is that among the aid received, about which we have expressed public thanks to each one, I like to remember the specific memorandum of support to Italy signed by President Trump for a value of 100 million dollars, memorandum that the US President himself announced to me on the eve with a long and warm telephone call. "

The premier concludes: "I do not want to elaborate on the possible geopolitics of those who help; rather, in our case, on the geopolitics of those who received and I can confirm that our foreign policy line today is identical to yesterday's".

In an interview with the newspaper Affaritaliani.it, the premier then stressed the need to ascertain "any responsibilities in the management of the pandemic that have influenced the current emergency internationally". And speaking of the White House accusations against China about the spread of the coronavirus he adds. "For the moment we consider it a priority to encourage international collaboration as a fundamental tool to defeat the virus and to protect global health. Italy believes in this possibility of cooperation and is ready to make its contribution, as we are already doing. within the framework of the Global Alliance against Coronavirus and as we certainly intend to do our best in the exercise of our next G20 Presidency ".

"I have only one plan: to secure the country, to guarantee the health of citizens, to give support to those in difficulty and, no less important challenge, to relaunch the economy and the productive fabric. These are my concerns "Conte then stressed when speaking of the tensions in the majority. "We welcome suggestions and stimuli from all government allies. A truly demanding task awaits us and everyone can and will have to offer their valuable contribution. None of the allies can have an interest in compromising government action, it would be incomprehensible to the eyes. The instability would be a serious damage on the eve of the challenge of restarting and would inevitably weaken our position in Europe in a decisive phase for the Italian and European future ".
