Normally, Karlskrona HK would have started pre-season training, team building, season ticket sales and business talks with sponsors - but this year the situation is completely different.

The corona eruption has meant that the income of the Swedish hockey club is absent - something that caused an acute crisis for debt-ridden Karlskrona HK.

At the end of April, salary payments were canceled to all staff.

- It's a tough situation. I go without pay myself, says club manager Per Rosenquist.

The economic situation has given Karlskrona HK two alternatives: the main track is a reconstruction which means that the club secures continued elite license.

Option two is bankruptcy.

Need quick response

Last week, the KHK leadership presented the restructuring plan for the political leadership in Karlskrona and it is clear that the club needs help to survive.

- Since we have lost the revenue, but have the expenses remaining, we will not be able to spend many more days. We are not able to incur additional debt. Then it is over, says KHK chairman Tobias Larsson.

During Monday evening, Karlskrona Municipality announced that it was offering KHK to buy equipment at a value that corresponds to the municipality's claims at the club, and that KHK can receive an advance on the municipal operating contribution for the whole year, about SEK 150,000.

- My hope is that our support will be able to help KHK, but I understand that their needs are great. At the same time, we must remember that the municipality's mission is to secure municipal core activities, such as school, care, care, community building and that it is done through tax funds, says Sandra Bizzozero, the chair of the local council, in a press release.

Pressured economy

In the press release, the municipality writes that its own economy is strained and that tough priorities are therefore required.

- The support we now offer is what we have the opportunity to offer. Over the years, Karlskrona Municipality has supported KHK by providing, among other things, postponements and write-downs of rents, sponsorship support and expansion of the arena, says Sandra Bizzozero

When SVT News Blekinge reaches Tobias Larsson he says that the club will have a board meeting during the evening and that he hopes to be able to give clearer information about the club's future after that.
