"In an exceptional situation, exceptional solution. We are thinking, with the authorities, to see what device we could set up to allow the recruitment of all these players registered on the list of players without a club," explained Tchale Watchou in an interview granted to AFP.

"We will ask, for example, an exceptional device so that players without a club are not counted in the salary cap when they are hired," added the former second line.

Introduced since 2010, the salary cap is a measure limiting the salary ceiling of professional clubs to 11.3 million euros.

The goal ? "Preserve the fairness of the championship," said the National Rugby League.

For Provale, this measure would help players and clubs face the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

At the end of April, Tchale-Watchou had already explained to AFP that "the players have agreed that, as far as possible, they will not be granted the holidays they are due".

"We all know we have to make an effort," said the president of the players' union.
