The number of coronavirus deaths in France has just crossed the 25,000 mark, health authorities announced Monday, May 4, after having counted 306 new deaths in 24 hours.

The precise balance sheet stands at 25,201 deaths since March 1, including 15,826 in hospitals and 9,375 in social and medico-social establishments, mainly nursing homes, said the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

The number of people hospitalized in intensive care for their contamination with the new coronavirus continues to decrease, with 123 fewer patients since Sunday for a total of 3,696.

The map of the departments for the gradual deconfinement planned from May 11 remains unchanged.

The circulation of the virus has decreased in Ardèche but this department does not go so far in green and remains in orange on the summary map drawn up for the deconfinement, due to a persistent hospital tension.

In mainland France, the departments of the Grand-Est, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté regions, i.e. the northeast quarter of the country, are the only ones in red.
