It is Vattenfall who wants to build the transformer station to supply Microsoft's gigantic server hall in Stackbo, between Gävle and Sandviken, with electricity.

Gävle municipality's environmental manager paints a worst-case scenario if the oil, despite all safety, would leak over the drinking water source:

- Then Gävle municipality is without drinking water, says Patrik Gustavsson.

Disputed politicians

It is the County Administrative Board that determines the application for exemption, but the municipality is allowed to comment. The Environment Agency wants to stop the dispensation, but the policy has gone against the officials and wants to give a clear sign to the new transformer station. However, there are critical voices, hear them in the clip above.

Vattenfall ensures that the plant is built with rigorous safety.

- Transformer stations built using today's technology are very safe and there have been no serious incidents of leakage of insulating fluid at Vattenfall's modern facilities. If this were to happen, we have collection vessels that hold the entire amount of insulating fluid, says Mikael Björnér, press officer at Vattenfall.

The County Administrative Board expects to be able to make decisions on the dispensation issue during the first week of May.
