It is the turn of Italy, the country most affected in Europe by the new coronavirus, to begin its gradual deconfinement. After almost two months confined on Monday, the 60 million Italians finally find some freedom.

Two months ago, the Covid-19 epidemic seemed dramatically ahead of Italy compared to other states. The country counted its deaths before us, confined itself earlier ... but today, Italy is entering a new phase: a gradual return to normal life. Shops reopen, some return to work. And "doing sport, that's it, it's allowed!" Enthuses a Roman resident at the microphone of Europe 1.

Opening of parks, authorized visits

"Before, it was only around my home, now we can move away. And in Rome, they are reopening the gardens, I'm going to be able to go back to running," says Manuele, 27, who has been dreaming for two months of taking the air in the immense parks of the capital. Like all Romans, he can finally leave his small apartment, even if he must still have his certificate on him in case of control.

Another novelty since Monday morning, and this is the most important for this Italian, the authorization to visit his family in his region: "For me, that changes everything!", He confides. "I do not live with my parents and even if they are not far away, with confinement I could not see them ... And the first that I will go to find are my grandparents. I do not I haven't seen them in 2, 3 months! But even with them, I will have to stay away and have a mask. "

Mandatory masks and safety distance

As of Monday, the few freedoms are indeed accompanied by new constraints throughout the territory: distances to be respected and wearing of the mandatory mask, in particular in all transport and shops. This is a first test before the wider opening of shops and museums in two weeks, and bars and restaurants on June 1. But until then, if contamination starts to rise again, the government has warned that it will be necessary to stop deconfinement.
