The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, praised the measures and measures taken by the UAE to protect women from the new Corona epidemic (Covid-19), during a recent online symposium to discuss "advocacy for gender at the international level in times of crisis."

In this regard, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Human Rights and International Law, Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Al-Jarman said: “The UAE is fully committed to promoting women's rights, based on its belief that empowerment is essential for the development of a modern and advanced society.”

The Germans indicated that, in this regard, the country allowed pregnant women and mothers with young children to work remotely as early precautions to prevent HIV infection.

It also worked to provide a distance education service for girls, and provide health care and services for women that enhance their physical and psychological health, to ensure safe medical care for them, especially in a crisis (Covid 19).

He added: “The UAE considers the security and safety of women a matter of great importance, as domestic violence is a serious crime in the state punishable by law, and the state periodically reviews and evaluates laws to ensure the protection of women, as the state recently issued a Federal Decree No. (10) of 2019 Concerning protection from domestic violence, and the family protection policy was adopted. ”

The High Commissioner praised the actions of the UAE and the Kingdom of Bahrain when she talked about the impact of the (Covid-19) pandemic on women and girls, and stated that they face many suffering in many endemic countries and were affected on three levels through decreased job opportunities, increased family violence, and a decrease in the number of Ambulances are dangerous to the lives of pregnant women.

The Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, has called for the need to combat family violence and take measures to address the appalling global surge in domestic violence against women and girls, linked to government-imposed closures as a result of response efforts to combat an epidemic (Covid-19).
