A 42-year-old Alabama resident was arrested on Thursday on Paradise Island, an abandoned island in Disney World, Florida. In the midst of a coronavirus epidemic, the man had entered the closed site a few days before to camp there. He has been charged with trespass and banned from all Disney parks, reports Newsweek .

The American explained, however, "not to have been aware" that his intrusion into what he describes as a "tropical paradise" constituted an offense. He also planned to stay there for a week. Numerous signs indicating that it is forbidden to enter private property are however distributed on the site. Law enforcement used the island's speaker system to inform the offender that he was breaking the law and to order him to leave.

The island was unused since 1999

The presence of the forties was initially detected by the security agents who monitor the scene. A helicopter, several boats and police on foot were required to locate the individual. The latter is said to have temporarily taken up residence in one of the buildings still present on the island.

Paradise Island has not been used since 1999, but the equipment there was not destroyed. Disney World - like the other amusement parks of the Disney group - had to close its doors for an indefinite period following the health crisis linked to Covid-19.
