Togo: Faure Gnassingbé invested for a fourth presidential term

Faure Gnassingbé was sworn in before the Constitutional Court this Sunday, May 3 for a fourth term, after the presidential election of February 22. During the solemn ceremony, the President of the Constitutional Court warned all those who would contest the results of the last ballot.

It was a sober ceremony - a coronavirus pandemic obliges - which took place in the presence of presidents of institutions, members of the government and diplomats.

The ceremony took place in three stages and was first marked by the swearing in of the President. Faure Gnassingbé then received the necklace from the grand master of the Mono order and the national flag.

The timing of the speech of the President of the Constitutional Court followed. Abdou Assouma warned those who would still be tempted to contest the results of the poll on February 22.

Gabriel Agbéyome Kodjo, who came in second with 19.46% of the votes, does not accept the results . Reacting to the ceremony this morning, the dynamite candidate Kpodzro, at large under judicial supervision with other executives of his movement, wrote on his Twitter account: “  Sad day for the Togolese who continue their way of the cross despite their firm will to build a new life trajectory  ”.
