On Monday, 30,000 salmon and trout smolts are released into the Stockholm stream, something that usually attracts visitors. But because of the spread of the corona virus, the release will be transmitted via the web.

- As we continue to think about keeping distance and avoiding congestion, we want to keep the spectator count at a low level, says Per-Oscar Hedman, Head of Communications at Fortum Sweden, in a press release.

Released fish for 46 years

The release of salmon and sea trout started in 1973 to preserve the fish stock and retain the opportunity to fish in the middle of the city. It is Stockholm City, Fortum and Heba that jointly account for the fish release. The fish that are released may not be caught until they weigh at least 1.4 kg.

On Monday at 13.00 the fish is released in Stockholm stream and the event can be followed on Youtube.

Last year, 10,000 trout were released in the Stockholm stream. See what it looked like then.
