United Nations call to resume talks
On the other hand, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya called on the parties to the conflict in the country to resume joint military talks with the aim of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement according to the international map.

The mission indicated that the two parties should seize the opportunity to immediately stop all military operations and resume political talks, based on the various calls for a ceasefire during the month of Ramadan and to counter the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The mission urged all parties to refrain from any acts or provocative statements threatening the prospects of achieving and sustaining a true armistice.

Clashes remain in southern Tripoli more than a year after the start of the Haftar offensive to take control of the Libyan capital.

Rejection of the armistice
The national reconciliation government recognized by the United Nations announced on Thursday its rejection of the "armistice" called by Haftar.

Hifter announced the cancellation of the Skhirat political agreement, and installed himself a military ruler of Libya last Monday, which means disrupting the Tobruk parliament, which is headed by Saleh.

The American position
For its part, the US embassy in Libya said that Ambassador Richard Norland and Speaker of the House of Representatives in Tobruk Aqila Saleh unanimously agreed that there is no military solution in Libya.

According to a statement of the embassy, the two sides agreed during a phone call on the importance of continuing negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations.

They also agreed on the importance of respecting the democratic process, and the need to avoid individual attempts to dictate the future of Libya unilaterally and by force of arms.

Norland warned of the danger of continued armed conflict, which would provide a climate for regrouping terrorist organizations throughout Libya, stressing the importance of combating terrorism there.

Rejected by the Security Council
, the Libyan delegate to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, said that the American delegate, Kelly Kraft, confirmed her country's rejection of what Haftar announced that he was in dissolution of the Skhirat agreement.

The Sunni added - in a tweet on Twitter - that the US ambassador assured him in a telephone conversation that her country's position is to reject unilateral positions and try to impose them by force of arms, and to strive to find peaceful solutions to support the democratic path and the stability of Libya.
