Through its members, PRO has investigated food prices around the country. As the food box looks a little different from year to year, no price comparison is made on an annual basis, however, one can see how the geographical differences persist.

- We see how it is cheaper in western Sweden with, among others, Halland and Värmland. Skaraborg is also well located. In Norrland, on the other hand, it is more expensive where it can be about lower customer base and longer deliveries, but precisely longer deliveries are also in Värmland so there should not be such a big difference, says Ola Nilsson, expert at PRO.

Big difference

Anyone who picked up the lunch box in Norrbotten had to pay an average of SEK 843. Corresponding food products in Skaraborg cost SEK 791, while the national average was SEK 812.

The difference between the most expensive and cheapest store was as much as 39 percent.

Since the survey was conducted in November last year, the situation has also changed dramatically for the members of the organization. With the recommendation to stay home if you are 70 or older, it becomes a challenge to shop. Buying food online is an alternative, though more expensive, more than ten percent more expensive on average.

- We 70-plus people should preferably not be in stores and shop today, but price awareness is also important in these times. Many members, especially single women, have a low pension, and it is much more expensive to shop, says PRO chairman Christina Tallberg about the price comparison between physical store and online.

- What is the problem today is that you cannot be looking properly for extra prices that you might do in ordinary cases. I think a lot of people get a higher food cost during these times.

Most expensive in Medelpad

There are also clear regional differences. In metropolitan regions such as Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö it is not surprisingly much cheaper to shop online. The cheapest online food is in Gothenburg and the most expensive in Medelpad.
