The hotel and casino group MGM Resorts International has proposed to the NBA to end the season, interrupted by the coronavirus, in its Las Vegas facilities, reports the New York Times on Saturday.
According to the plan, players, their families and the necessary staff would remain in quarantined areas at MGM hotels on the Las Vegas Strip where they could play games and train.
MGM, which owns 13 hotels in Las Vegas, would transform 24 convention centers into basketball halls.
According to the ESPN channel, the NBA is studying a similar project of a quarantine zone in Orlando, Florida, in hotels and rooms belonging to Disney World.
Thirty teams would be affected if the NBA were to resume the regular season where it was interrupted, or 16 if the decision was made to resume directly at the playoff stadium.
The NBA was suspended until further notice on March 11.
The presidents of the thirty franchises of the NBA unanimously "intend to end the season," said Thursday that of San Antonio Spurs, RC Buford.
In the meantime, a first step towards a very gradual return to basketball could take place from next Friday. On this date, some franchises could have the green light from the NBA to reopen their training centers if they are in states whose directives allow it.
Only four players at a time will be allowed in the facilities and only for individual sessions.
