Israeli media reported that Israeli officials have made progress in concluding a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, after the movement announced its willingness to make a partial concession on the matter.

The Israeli media pointed out that last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a special and extraordinary meeting with the Ministerial Committee on Prisoners and Missing Persons Affairs to discuss the possibility of concluding a prisoner exchange deal.

The head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, announced that they are ready to make a partial concession on the issue of the Israeli prisoners to the Palestinian resistance in exchange for the release of the Israeli occupation of the elderly and sick prisoners as a humanitarian initiative in light of the Corona crisis.

Al-Sinwar also indicated in an interview with Al-Aqsa TV that the consultations of the prisoners' deal had stopped since the beginning of the political crisis inside Israel.

These statements stirred the stagnant waters and brought to the fore again the negotiations between Hamas and Israel regarding the four Israeli prisoners of war with the Palestinian resistance.

A military justification,
and Israeli statements and leaks followed, confirming that there was progress in those negotiations.

On this subject, political analyst Adnan Abu Amer said that Netanyahu needed the presence of generals and military personnel in the army who would give him moral or military justification in order for the soldiers to be recovered through an exchange deal with Hamas.

He added that in this case, "he will not be solely responsible for submitting to the demands of Hamas in front of the Israeli street ... These officers will give him popular and public cover while expediting these negotiations with Hamas."

Despite these facts, Hamas has said more than once that Israel is not serious about dealing with its initiative.

Israeli political analyst Shlomo Ganor says, "The principles according to which the Israeli side operates is that there should be dialogue, not negotiations, and that the deal be comprehensive from one stage and not from several stages as requested by Hamas, and finally the price that Hamas requires in its various stages is unacceptable on the side."
