(Madrid, 1960). Journalist, ex-Gomaespuma, lives since 2002 in the USA. Today he premieres The Invisible Monster in Movistar Plus, a film shot with his brother Javier in the Philippines in collaboration with Action Against Hunger.

How are you? Well, vacuum packed like everyone else. I passed the bugAt first, I was feverish for nine days in bed. But I'm fine now, bounced and wanting to do things. The virus caught me in Madrid and as then the confinement came, here I have stayed. What is 'The Invisible Monster' about? It is a small film about invisible hunger, about the malnourished that passes by you on the street and neither you find out it is. We shot it on the island of Mindanao, in the Philippines. We spend a month living with families who have their lives in a garbage dump. Every morning a yellow truck full of garbage arrives that is as if it were Amazon and from there comes what they will eat, recycle, with which they will build their house ... It had to be projected in schools throughout Spain. Hopefully children can give an answer to a problem that adults have not been able to solve. In the 21st century, hunger is supposed to be completely eradicated, and we continue here. Why is it aimed at children? The idea is that they see that being poor does not necessarily mean being bitter all day, being a bad person, a criminal or a donkey. Happiness exists in the places where you least expect it. You can be a child as nice, nice and attractive as the one they are seeing in the movie, but at the same time go hungry. The opposite of poverty is not wealth, as many of us think, but justice. A major chip change. When you do, you go from charity to justice. Giving someone who is hungry a plate of food is not the same as giving them a clean shirt so they can go to a job interview. When you give them access to things, people often solve their own problems. There's nothing funny about living in a garbage dump, and yet there is humor in the film, which is achieved by listening. I firmly believe that anyone has a biography as exciting as that of Obama, Mother Teresa, Gandhi or Julius Caesar, the only thing it takes is someone who has the patience to listen to it. And then the talent to write it. We all have an exciting life because life is not what we have done, but how we felt when we did it. It is not as important to be a Nobel Prize winner as to have given you a hug the day your father died. That is unforgettable. Sometimes life has a horrible aspect. But the same day the dog dies you find a job. Happiness and tragedy navigate together and the film reflects that. Happiness appears in the places where you least expect it, because these people are no different from us: they are neither completely sad nor completely happy. The difference is that, sadly, they go hungry. And that's when we have to ask ourselves why. Does invisible hunger also exist in Spain? Yes. It is not a hunger like that of the boys from Biafra with an inflated stomach, it is the hunger of those who eat but eat little and because of that they are not developing their abilities and they are falling behind. We do not realize because that child goes through the street with the jacket more or less in place, without wrinkles, fine. What do your friends and neighbors tell you about the situation in the United States? There is a serious problem and it is the exacerbated capitalism of recent years. There are wonderful services, but fewer and fewer people can afford them. Now, with the pandemic, social holes are seen. African-Americans and Latinos are the ones without health insurance or the $ 30,000 they ask for to get tested and treated. To all this it is added that the human being in the White House now, Donald Trump, in addition to a gangster on top is a useless. What interests him is the economy, which is what can give him victory, and not the health of the Americans. His message is: it is better that a few die than that we go bankrupt. The management of the White House has been appalling. You live in Rhinebeck, a town 100 miles from New York. In New York, we are fortunate that Governor Andrew Como has two fingers on his forehead, has taken the political scrolls off him, and has started swimming in the right direction. He informs citizens and has done things that have perhaps prevented a much bigger tragedy. Still, the death toll is appalling and the number of infections is on the rise. Curiously, the country remains completely divided. One might think that what a pandemic does is put everyone on the same side and fight in the same direction, but sadly Trump's great victory has been to take away the credibility of the media: if he says they areFake news , people are following it outright. Are there people who deny the existence of the pandemic? They think that the virus is something that Democrats have fed to remove Trump from the White House. There are states like Georgia in which, with increasing cases, shops and beaches open. There are demonstrations of people who go out to protest because they want freedom, who are buying weapons like crazy. It is worrying because this is giving wings to a type of people who are very dangerous and can provoke an outbreak of violence at any time. How do you think it will affect the elections in the United States? There is an old world and a new world. The old world is the one we have known until yesterday, with ancient rules, the United Nations and a problem that is coming upon us, the climate crisis. And then there is the new world, in which the economy is more participatory and people no longer want to have a car, but to have access to being able to move a car. The big problem is that the new world is not participating in the old world. You are not voting. Is Biden the solution? Trump is a gangster, an egotistical, narcissistic and pitiful guy. But I doubt that Joe Biden is illusory to the new world, which Bernie Sanders did achieve because he was talking about climate change, paying a minimum wage, guaranteeing universal health insurance, what sense is it that prisons are overflowing with people who are They have caught stealing a cupcake in the supermarket that, without having the $ 200 bail, they spend a year in jail. Biden does not connect with millennials or women. I see the country so polarized that I think Trump will surely win again. The only thing that can take its toll is this murderous pandemic and its negative management, encouraging people to take shots of bleach. The truth is that we have a big mess in the White House and a Democratic candidate who is not really excited by anyone. Democrats will vote for Biden, but I don't know if those old world votes will suffice, if he will get it without the youth vote. In any case, the old world is going to disappear with Trump or with or whoever. We need the new world to come as soon as possible to find solutions. What do you think of crisis management in Spain? In detail I cannot comment because I live immersed in the politics of the United States. But I do believe that there are times when one has to put aside the differences and this is an immense opportunity to put on the table what unites us. Maybe those on the right are right when they criticize the government because some things have been done wrong, I won't go into detail. But it doesn't matter. This is not the time to look for failures, it is the time to contribute. Now we are faced with a historic opportunity to do something important for people, we should not miss it. We have built a world in which the Kardashians are the heroines of Planet. We have created a superficial and technological world but of little human interest. The result is that we have mediocre, interested and partisan politicians.
