China News Service, Washington, May 1 (Reporter Chen Mengtong) White House Press Secretary Carrey McNee held the first press conference since her new role in the White House press briefing room on May 1. It was also nearly 14 months after the press secretary of the White House held another press conference.

McNee, who has just passed his 32nd birthday, succeeded Grisham on April 8 as the fourth press secretary of US President Trump. Previously, she served as a spokesperson for the Trump campaign team and a spokesperson for the US Republican National Committee.

This press conference lasted more than 30 minutes. McNee answered questions related to the US government ’s epidemic response, former Vice President Biden, and former National Security Assistant Michael Flynn. She revealed that her current working status is "almost all day by the president".

McNee said her task is to understand the president ’s ideas and pass them on to the news media so that the latter “reports these facts fairly and accurately.

The White House last held a regular press conference on March 11, 2019, when the press secretary was Sanders. In June of that year, Grisham took over the post. But in more than nine months as the "Chief Spokesperson" of the White House, Grisham has never hosted a regular press conference.

The Associated Press pointed out that in the past few governments, the White House press secretary held a routine press conference every day is normal. But in the view of this administration, the White House press conference has become less important because the president usually answers reporters' questions on various occasions every day.

The US media pointed out that since Trump took office, the relationship between the White House and the news media has not been harmonious. Trump ’s two former press secretaries, Spicer and Sanders, both had controversy with the media at the press conference and had false statements. Since the White House Chief of Staff Meadows took office in early March this year, the White House began to change positions and reorganize the news and public relations team.

At his "first show" press conference, a reporter asked McNee, "Can you guarantee that you will never lie to us from the podium?"

"I will never lie to you, I promise you." She replied.

McNee did not promise to resume the White House ’s daily press conference. But she said she plans to continue to inform the media about the situation, the specific time will be announced. (Finish)
