The new coronavirus has caused an additional 218 deaths in France in 24 hours, bringing to 24,594 the total number of deaths recorded since the start of the epidemic, announced Friday the Director General of Health. In his daily press briefing, Jérôme Salomon reported a continuing decline in the number of people hospitalized, in particular in intensive care units.

The death toll is divided into 15,369 deaths in hospitals and 9,225 in social and medico-social establishments, mainly nursing homes, said Jérôme Salomon.

The number of people hospitalized for their contamination with the new coronavirus increased to 25,887, 396 fewer than on Thursday.

Of this total, 3,878 patients are treated in intensive care, 141 less than the day before.
