The residents of the Madrid neighborhood of Malasaña have adorned its streets to celebrate the festivities of this unusual May 2 between windows and balconies. Pennants and lanterns are already hanging from the facades, converted by the confinement into an improvised stage - and, also, a seating area - to host an ingenious program created by and for the residents .

Theaters, concerts, DJ sessions , exhibitions of chulapos and chulapas, vermouths in the community and even a bingo can be enjoyed live without leaving the houses this Thursday and Friday, without forgetting the classics. The photography exhibition and the children's race that take place every year hang on the poster, but adapted for the occasion in virtual version. And from the screens, in streaming, you can also follow many other plans.

The neighbors, under the baton of the Maravillas Platform , which has been organizing these self-managed parties for 12 years, have put about 40 ideas on the table that will see the light.

"It has been very difficult for us to decide if we were going to celebrate the holidays or not, but we believe that it is important to continue reaching out to the neighbors, because these days we are experiencing an important wave of solidarity. We need a little relief , the situation is very hard," says Inma. in voice of the Maravillas Platform, who has taken into account the schedule of the programming, adjusting the plans to a short duration to avoid disturbing the neighbors who are sick or who have lost a loved one.

The highlight of this Friday will be given, after applause, at the junction of the Corredera Baja with Calle Puebla. A play, fanfare, comedy, performance and castiza , devised by the artist and stage creator Tito Rubio-Iglesias with the collaboration of the playwright and director José Ignacio Tocé, will be performed from the balconies and windows, decorated for the occasion. Residents themselves, disguised with whatever they have on hand, will become actors to make their neighbors laugh with surreal conversations about confinement.

The festive offer of this May 1 will be completed with an artistic exhibition of the residents (Colón street), a concert by the Evita de Malasaña (Tesoro street), an opera and zarzuela show (Palma street), a costume party of trades (Valverde and Colón streets), poetry, jokes, music and even a neighborhood bingo (Desengaño street). In addition, on the online side, there will be a talk with a sexologist, concerts and a DJ session.

The Corredera Baja street adorned with pennants these days.

On Saturday, the atmosphere will continue with a costume party and aperitif (Casto Plasencia street), a local vermouth (in the entire neighborhood), a tribute to the Beatles concert (Casto Plasencia street), an electric-acoustic concert by Bruno Tambascio (Corredera Baja de San Pablo), a costume show for chulapos and chulapas and a dj session with verbena songs .

The virtual children's and youth race will also be held this day, where there will also be, among other things, a flamenco masterclass and a drag queen show .

On Sunday May 3, the online offer will continue with a dj session and, on Monday, a virtual yoga class designed to recover from excesses will end the parties.

The exhibition that is shown every year at Conde Duque, this 2020 will be seen on social networks, where the artists, under the hashtags of # ArtistaHaciendoBarrio2020 and # Fiestas2d, will show their works.

The parties will also have their solidarity aspect so that the neighbors are encouraged to collaborate with the Food Bank of the Malasaña / Conde Duque / Chueca Acompaña network, which is currently helping those most in need of the Covid-19 crisis.
