From March 17 (first day of confinement) to April 26 inclusive (latest data available), more than 11,200 major speeding tickets were reported in France by police, gendarmes and speed cameras, compared to 9,600 over the same period. last year, according to information collected by Europe 1, an increase of 16.6% in this type of offense.

"Almost everyone is driving too fast"

Regarding speeding between 40 km / h and 50 km / h, the trend is the same as for major speeding: an increase of 16.3%, or 10,700 infractions recorded against 9,200 in the same period in 2019, according to the official figures we got.

A young 19-year-old driver intercepted at 234 km / h

Despite the numerous control and reporting operations implemented since the beginning of April, the phenomenon is not slowing down. In recent days, record violations have again been noted by the police. Sunday, April 26, in the Drôme, a recidivist 23-year-old driver, without a driver's license, was checked at 149 km / h on a portion of the D67, limited to 70 km / h.
