“On the proposal to surrender, they opened fire”: in Yekaterinburg, neutralized the militants who prepared the attacks

FSB officers prevented terrorist attacks in Yekaterinburg. During the operation, security forces neutralized the three militants planning the attack.

According to the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC), security officials blocked a private one-story house in the Chkalovsky district of Yekaterinburg, in which three bandits took refuge.

“On the proposal to surrender to the authorities, the bandits opened fire. They were neutralized by the special forces of the FSB of Russia, ”the NAC said. Homemade explosive devices, weapons and ammunition were found at the site of a shootout with militants.

According to reports, the perpetrators were supporters of the banned Islamic State * organization. They were preparing to commit "resonant crimes of a terrorist orientation."

It is noted that during the operation, none of the security forces or civilians were injured.

During the work of operatives in the Chkalovsky district of Yekaterinburg and the suburban Aramil city district, a counter-terrorist operation regime was introduced. He acted from 00:30 to 5:15 local time (22:30 - 3:15 Moscow time).

In early April, another IG supporter was neutralized in Murmansk. The man also intended to commit a terrorist attack. When trying to detain the militant opened fire on special forces and was neutralized.

The day before, it became known that terrorist attacks were prevented in the Stavropol Territory and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

So, in the Stavropol region, security forces identified members of the Islamic State cell. According to the FSB, it was a local resident and a native of Dagestan who planned attacks on police and terrorist attacks at objects of mass residence of people.

One of the attackers was detained, the second showed armed resistance and was neutralized.

At the same time, three members of the Caucasus Emirate ** terrorist group were detained in the city of Lyantor in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. The bandits were preparing a terrorist attack on one of the city’s shopping facilities. They found homemade explosives, weapons and ammunition ready for use.

At the end of March, the terrorist attack was prevented in the Krasnodar Territory. Then the security forces conducted an operation and detained a man born in 1993, in whose car there was an explosive device made from improvised materials. The bomb was stuffed with metal bolts and screws to enhance the damaging effect.

The attacker also had with him the means of communication with “correspondence exposing his criminal intentions” with IG members abroad.

Earlier that month, three militants who were preparing a terrorist attack were neutralized in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Also in March, a militant who planned to carry out a terrorist attack in Bashkortostan was neutralized. They tried to stop the car of the attacker for verification, in response he opened fire on the security forces and was neutralized. They found a gun and a homemade explosive ready for use with them.

According to law enforcement agencies, the attacker also intended to commit a terrorist attack.

The fight against terrorism in 2019

In early March, the NAC summed up the work on countering terrorism in Russia. According to the committee, in 2019, security officials detained 41 terrorist leaders, 241 privates and more than 600 accomplices.

For 12 months of 2019, the activities of 78 cells of banned organizations were suppressed, whose members planned terrorist attacks and attacks on law enforcement officers. At the preparation stage, 57 crimes of a terrorist nature were prevented, including 34 terrorist attacks.

In addition, over the past year, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB and the Russian Guard have eliminated 83 illegal workshops for the production and conversion of weapons, thus removing a large number of weapons, ammunition and explosives from circulation.

It should be noted that in February, President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that in 2019 the number of extremist crimes decreased by more than two times.

However, the head of state said that this was “not a reason for complacency,” and recalled that the Ministry of Internal Affairs was responsible for maintaining stability in society.
