When the closure decision was made in October 2018, 24 people worked at the dairy. When the previous owner, Bengt-Åke Bengtsson, sold Boxholm's dairy to Arla in 2011, the company had a Swedish CEO who promised to invest in Boxholm's cheese. Arla's management is now based in Denmark and they believe that the company saves SEK 14 million a year on producing cheese in Jämtland instead.

SVT News Ost has sought the broker and Johan Birath for comment. So far without success.
