The number of deaths is now up to 93 people, 26 people are admitted to the care department and six people are cared for in the intensive care unit for covid-19.

150 samples are taken every weekday and slightly fewer on weekends. Jan Smedjegård believes that this means that the number of cases is now clearly increasing day by day in Västmanland.

- Even on Tuesday, there were 749 cases of diagnosed covid-19 and there were 30 new cases during Tuesday night.

Changed peak

Initially, the region of Västmanland believed that the "peak" would come two months after the first case, which would mean mid-May, but that has now changed according to Smedjegård.

- We received reports that Stockholm could "peak" around April 15 and we are on schedule two weeks after and then our "peak" should end about now. And when we look at our own data on people being cared for in hospitals, we see that we had the largest number of covid-19 patients during the Easter weekend with a number of 50 during several of those days.

"Hospital Peak" in Easter

Based on this, the infectious surgeon now believes that Västmanland's "hospital peak" was already at the Easter weekend.

Is there a risk of it scaling back?

- We cannot say that completely, but it is important that we continue to comply with all recommendations that have been made, says Jan Smedjegård.
