April 29, 2020 "While the curve of new covid-19 affections in the country seems, fortunately, to diminish with a certain constancy, in prisons the infections seem to rise steeply. While the Department of Prison Administration continues to not respond to our requests for information, making it suspect that it has no interest in data transparency, from yesterday's bulletin of the National Guarantor of the rights of persons detained or deprived of personal liberty we learn that there would be well over 150 prisoners currently positive in the various penitentiary institutions, without knowing, however, how many of they have been buffered; if we consider that there were 37 positives on April 6, the growth seems dizzying ". This was stated by Gennarino De Fazio, for the Uilpa National Penitentiary Police.

And he adds: "While the media attention is catalyzed by the release of prisoners at 41-bis, the worrying growth trend of the prison infections is likely to go unnoticed, even in spite of the decrease in the restricted, which went from 56.476 on April 6 to 54.168 registered as of yesterday; in short: 2,308 less prisoners, but well over 113 more positive. We do not know, however, precisely the number of infected people among operators, given the repeated reticence of the Dap, but we estimate that there could be at least 300 those that are currently positive. For this reason we continue to believe that a change in the management of the health emergency is essential, as well as a radical re-foundation of the penitentiary system ".
