The Regional Director of the World Health Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean countries, Ahmed Al-Manzari, warned in a press conference yesterday of the repercussions of the emergence of the new Corona virus in Syria, Libya and Yemen, and called on countries in the region to be patient in lifting the restrictions of social separation.

"This battle has become more challenging with the emergence of the virus in countries such as the Syrian Arab Republic, Libya and Yemen," Al-Manzari said.

He added: «decades and years of conflict, sometimes accompanied by natural disasters and previous outbreaks, have left these health systems weak, and there are millions of people who are more vulnerable to infectious diseases due to living conditions in crowded places, and weak immunity resulting from years of insecurity Food ».

He explained that in Yemen, more than 13 million people depend on food aid every month, and 8.8 million people need health care. Al-Manzari pointed out that "the political division in these countries leads to limited access of humanitarian services to some areas."

The Regional Director of the World Health Organization warned against some countries lifting restrictions and measures of social divergence, and said that this may cause the re-emergence of Covid-19 disease, and it will get out of control, causing a worsening second wave of cases.

Yesterday, the World Health Organization called for increased air traffic in order to deliver shipments of diagnostic devices, protection and prevention tools to areas where Covid-19 disease is spreading, especially Latin America, and the organization's chief of operations and logistics support, Paul Molinaro, said that global vaccine shipments It broke down in April, and if this continues in May, there will be gaps in vaccinations and routine campaigns to fight other diseases.

On the other hand, the United Nations warned that the spread of "Covid-19" threatens to cause extensive damage to eastern African countries, where food insecurity may more than double in just three months.

The United Nations World Food Program estimates that about 20 million people currently lack safe food supplies. They are spread over nine countries in the region: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda.

These countries recorded a small number of injuries (in the hundreds or tens) of "Covid-19", compared to the rest of the world, but due to their most fragile economies and weak health infrastructure, these countries are more vulnerable to the repercussions of the worsening crisis.

The World Food Program spokeswoman, Elizabeth Beers, told reporters in Geneva that the UN agency estimates that the number of people lacking food security in the region will likely rise to 34 or even 43 million in the next three months, due to the social and economic repercussions of « Covid-19 ».

Regional Director of the "Health Organization":

"Millions of people are vulnerable to communicable diseases due to the living conditions in crowded places."

The organization urges increased air traffic in order to deliver preventive shipments and vaccines.
