Not only does he remain in prison but he will also have to pay a fine of 135 euros for non-compliance with confinement. A man was convicted Monday, by videoconference, by the criminal court of Castres, in the Tarn, for spitting on two gendarmes by claiming that he wanted to transmit the coronavirus to them.

The case dates back to March 24 in Graulhet, during the arrest of this man, drunk at the time of the facts. The two gendarmes told the witness stand that this mishap had led to their fortnight and also a concern for their health and that of their families, especially since one of them fell ill, without knowing at final if it was Covid-19.

The accused's lawyer, Manon Lauron, insisted on the drunkenness of his client but also on the fact that he had just learned of the death of a loved one.

The court was not moved. He sentenced the man to 12 months in prison, six of which were closed, for "violence against persons holding public authority". It also awarded respectively 800 and 1,000 euros in damages to the gendarmes victims of sputum.
