Mask 19 is a code word used by other countries for people who are exposed to violence in close relationships. The password is used as a call for help. Now, in Piteå, people have noticed this and asked the pharmacies if they are interested in working together to try to help women who are subjected to domestic violence.

- The pharmacy was directly on request and wanted to set up and help, says Sofie Isaksson, unit manager at the Piteå social administration.

"It's not the question of whether we want to help, but just how we can solve it in a smooth way," says Katrin Marklund at Kronan's pharmacy in Piteå.

Password for help

With inspiration from France, the social service in Piteå municipality collaborates with the pharmacies to help those who are exposed to violence in close relationships. By entering a code - Mask 19 - the pharmacy staff helps to communicate with professional help through the unit Support for children and family. It is the same code used internationally and nationally that applies in Piteå.

- We assume that the violence has increased but cannot see it in incoming cases or police reports yet. But we know that in crisis situations and isolation, violence increases, says Sofie Isaksson.

- The question is only when we will see the increase because we know it exists but have not really seen it yet, she says.
