To fight the coronavirus, Argentina on Monday (April 27th) ordered one of the strictest travel bans in the world. While the country's borders were closed last month, the sale of commercial airline tickets is now impossible until September 1.

The decree signed Monday by the national civil aviation administration concerns all international flights to and from Argentina, and all domestic flights.

Outcry

This announcement caused an outcry from the aeronautical sector, which denounced the additional pressures it will have to face, in a context of declining demand caused by the health crisis. The country was already going through a serious economic crisis before the virus arrived.

Several South American countries, such as Ecuador, Peru and Colombia, have also suspended commercial flights, but without imposing such a long ban.
