Ten inspectors made checks at 90 cafés and taverns in Gothenburg this weekend, almost half of all controlled operations showed deficiencies during the inspections, but most were corrected when the environmental management arrived at the site. But the overall impression from the inspectors was that most businesses do what they can to reduce congestion and allow guests to keep safe distances.

- There are also many business operators who find it difficult to keep guests away. Many companies move the tables themselves closer together and sit tight. There everyone must take greater responsibility, says Angelica Winter, head of the food control department at the Environmental Management, City of Gothenburg.

"Long tables are a problem"

According to Angelica Winter, the approximately 40 businesses that the environmental management pointed out were deficiencies, which had very small deficiencies that could be quickly rectified.

- It may be that you forgot to set up distance information, or tables that need to be moved more apart. There were about ten businesses that had failed in their actions that we will need to follow up, she says.

Angelica Winter says that some restaurants have a harder time adhering to the current regulations, it can be about the physical layout of the premises or even the furniture.

- For example, long tables are a problem, where groups of guests almost automatically end up close to each other, but it may also be that there are no routines for how to manage the influx of guests to the restaurants, she says.

No operations are closed

At present, there is no need to close any operations, says Angelica Winter, but she also says that new checks will be implemented this weekend.

- We have a planned contribution to the election weekend, then we will certainly do follow-ups on several activities during the weekend, says Angelica Winter.
