Linus Ottosson has high blood pressure, congenital malformations of the vertebrae and a number of other diseases. He was kidney transplanted in 2010 and eats immunosuppressive drugs. A doctor has stated that he "is at risk during the pandemic".

At present, there is no compensation for people who belong to a risk group for covid-19 but are healthy enough to work. And, as a nurse at a BUP reception in Växjö, Linus Ottosson cannot perform from home.

"I cried completely silently"

At first, he got his own room at work and the council to avoid the staff dining room. But soon the fear of getting infected started to affect him more and more.

- I started to get stressed, started getting panic attacks and such at work. Even on my way to and from work, I cried completely unscathed, he says.

In early April, Linus Ottosson became ill due to stress and anxiety. Since then he has remained at home and isolated.

The Government is working on a proposal that will allow the members of certain risk groups to receive financial support to stay at home. But when it will be presented is not yet clear.

"The ambition is to come up with a proposal as soon as possible," writes Social Minister Lena Hallengren's press secretary in an email to SVT.

In need of a political solution

Linus Ottoson's employer Region Kronoberg does not want to comment on his individual cases, but says they are in need of a political solution.

- We are awaiting advice from authorities on how to manage the risk groups. This is a huge priority on our part. The entire organization is in need of it, both managers and employees, so that we can handle it in an equal way, says Pontus Juhlin, HR Director of Region Kronoberg.

Linus Ottosson thinks that the state should step in and take the cost of people in risk groups who cannot work from home.

- I think it should have been one of the first things to think about, it should have happened at least a month ago. I think it's a hurry, and I think many people agree with me.
