On April 4, a forest fire that reached an area of 20 hectares occurred in the restricted area of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. On the 7th, the fire area increased to 35 hectares. The Ukrainian Emergency Department announced on April 14 that the fire has been brought under control and is expected to be completely extinguished in the near future.
But the strong wind caused the fire to spread again. Rescuers successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and nuclear waste storage.
Rescuers and police believe that the cause of the fire was less snow in winter and dry forest.
