As Beglov noted, the virus turned out to be a “more cruel and more insidious enemy” than it seemed at the beginning.

“We hoped that by the May holidays the epidemic will decline or at least reach a plateau. But the number of cases last week was more than five times the number of people who recovered. The dynamics is negative. The situation remains difficult, ”RIA Novosti quotes the governor.

He emphasized that timely restrictions introduced helped to avoid an explosion of morbidity.

“But we are balancing on the brink,” he added.

Beglov said that city officials are deploying extra beds for patients with COVID-19.

“We are considering, among other things, the most difficult scenario, we are actively deploying new beds for patients with coronavirus,” he said.

According to data on April 27, 87147 cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Russia. Most of all in Moscow - 45351 cases. 

In St. Petersburg, 3238 cases of infection were registered, 489 people recovered, 27 - died.
