The meeting comes at the request of Palestine to discuss the steps and measures that Arab states can take towards the seriousness of implementing the Israeli plan to annex the West Bank or parts of it and impose Israeli sovereignty over it and the illegal settlements and settlements established on the land of the State of Palestine occupied since 1967, especially the annexation of the Palestinian Valley The classified area is / c / from the West Bank.

The League’s General Secretariat held consultations with Palestine, who invited the meeting, and the Sultanate of Oman, the current president of the university’s session, to determine the scheduled date for the extraordinary / emergency / session of the council at the level of Arab foreign ministers at a remote virtual meeting. The request was supported by a number of Arab countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait Jordan, Algeria, Yemen and Iraq.
Ambassador Hossam Zaki pointed to the political action taken by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, in this regard, especially with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, pointing out that Aboul Gheit recently received a message from Guterres, during which he expressed his rejection of the Israeli directions and intentions with a declaration The annexation of settlements or any parts of the West Bank, considering that a decision like this would close the door to negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, and eliminate the horizon of the two-state solution.
Zaki stated that the message of "Guterres" came in response to a message that had been sent to him by Aboul Gheit several days ago, during which he warned of the danger of the Israeli tendencies towards exploiting the global concern to confront the epidemic "Covid-19" to install a new existing status, and annexing parts of the occupied Palestinian territories and a declaration Israeli sovereignty over them, calling on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities and be alert to the seriousness of what the Israeli government intends to do on regional stability and security in the entire region.
In his message, the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his participation, Aboul Gheit, the discomfort with Israeli intentions, considering that taking the Israeli government steps towards annexing settlements or parts of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, would represent a serious violation of international law, stressing that what is required today is cooperation Among governments to confront the global epidemic, and not unilateral measures, expressing concern about the health situation in the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem in particular.
Aboul Gheit sent letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to the foreign ministers of the permanent members of the Security Council and Germany, and to the High Representative for European Foreign Policy, to warn of the danger of Israeli policies that exploit the atmosphere of the global epidemic, in particular the trend towards declaring annexation of parts of the occupied Palestinian territories.
