Tourism ministers from G20 countries pledged on Friday 24 April to guarantee that "the lifting of travel restrictions is coordinated" in Europe, for tourist locations. Germany, for its part, does not want a disparate reopening as part of the deconfinement.

European tourists on the terrace dancing together and sharing drinks. Result: express contamination and a  coronavirus distributed on return to several countries. This is what happened in March in a famous ski resort in Tyrol, and this is what no one in Europe wants to see again.

In an interview published on Sunday, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said he wanted a coordinated continental response for the time being. It is not quite getting there. Because tourism is for many countries an important resource, and competition is on the rise. For the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, "  a European race to the one who authorizes tourist stays first will lead to unacceptable risks  ".

Exceptions envisaged

The official reopening of the borders between member states is expected earlier this fall, but some countries are already considering derogations. But not for everyone.

Austria intends to allow the entry of German visitors, Germans who may be disappointed not to be able to go to Spain. Some homeowners on the island of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, have expressed their anger at not being able to access it.

Croatia, for its part, is considering air links with its most loyal tourists: the Czechs, the Austrians and the Hungarians.
