The German Interior Ministry said that Chinese diplomats contacted German government officials and tried to encourage them to make positive statements about how the Chinese authorities deal with the Corona pandemic.

The ministry stated that the German government acknowledged China's efforts to contain the epidemic - especially since January 23 last - without being asked by the Chinese government.

She added that Berlin had informed Beijing of the need for transparency in fighting the virus.

Reuters reported that it had seen the message yesterday, Sunday, in which it stated that "the German government is aware of individual contacts made by Chinese diplomats with the aim of urging positive public statements about the People's Republic of China dealing with the Corona virus."

The letter, dated April 22, adds that "the federal government has not responded to these requests."

The German Ministry of the Interior sent the aforementioned message to the German Green Party deputy in Parliament Margaret Bauze, in response to her question whether Chinese diplomats contacted German officials with the aim of encouraging them to make positive statements.

The newspaper Welt im Zontag was the first to publish the news of the contacts, and quoted the Chinese embassy in Berlin as rejecting the report, which it described as false and irresponsible.
