The Taliban accused the Afghan government of placing obstacles to the peace agreement signed between the movement and Washington last February.

In a statement, she said that the government delayed the release of the movement's detainees under various pretexts, and it has not yet announced its team, which will start negotiations with it.

The Taliban affirmed that they had fulfilled all their obligations related to peace and ending violence in the country, which are stipulated in the Doha Agreement.

On the other hand, the movement accused the United States and the international coalition of failing to implement the terms of the agreement because of their support of government forces with weapons and ammunition, which the Taliban considered a provocation.

For his part, said Siddiq Siddiqui, a spokesman for the Afghan President, that the government is fully committed to ending the war in the country.

My friend added that one of the steps - taken by the government to achieve this goal - was to sign a decree to release a number of Taliban detainees and to form a delegation to negotiate with the movement.

However, he said in a tweet on Twitter that, in parallel with the measures taken by the government, the Taliban escalated the violence in the month of Ramadan, despite repeated requests from the government, scholars, the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union for a ceasefire, and that the movement insisted on continuing the war in the country.

Humanitarian ceasefire
On the other hand, the American Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, called Sunday for a "humanitarian" ceasefire in this country that is trying to address the crisis of the spread of the emerging Corona virus.

Khalilzad, who brokered negotiations that led to an agreement with the Taliban - in a series of tweets marking the start of the month of Ramadan - stressed that all parties should focus on a "common enemy."

"The prosperity of the Afghan people and the country itself is linked to the dedication of all parties to their energies to fight the Covid-19 pandemic," said the US-born Afghan negotiator.

He concluded by saying, "Ramadan gives the Taliban an opportunity to adopt a humanitarian cease-fire to reduce violence and stop military attacks until the health crisis ends."

It is noteworthy that the number of new infections of the Corona virus reached 1531 cases, including 50 deaths. However, given the limited capabilities available for testing, experts fear that the actual number may be much higher.
