Today, a funeral service for lawyer Timofei Musatov, who defended the Russian businessman Alexander Vinnik, who was arrested in Greece in the summer of 2017 at the request of the United States and then extradited to France, took place at the St. Lawrence Monastery near Kaluga. Musatov died in Moscow at the 51st year of his life. The cause of death was an accident, according to the law firm of International Solicitors and Lawyers, in which the deceased worked.

Recently, Musatov was preparing for a hearing on an appeal against the decision of the Greek Supreme Court to extradite Alexander Vinnik to France. Musatov planned to come to Athens for a court hearing.

Patron, musician, artist

Musatov's friends and colleagues speak of him as a very versatile person who is passionate about art. The lawyer loved music and played the guitar, he had his own studio.

In addition, he helped popularize Russian culture abroad.

With his support, a series of “Russian Balls” was held in London, Vienna and Moscow, the annual festival “Violin Spring” in Paris and the “Russian Theater Spring” in Berlin. Musatov directed the funds raised at the balls to the Life Line charity, which helps seriously ill children.

“Indeed, a man of blessed memory! He paid a lot of attention to art and was a patron of our festival “Violin Spring” in Paris, ”said Anton Martynov, musician, composer and professor of the Paris Conservatory. “He believed that art makes life such that“ it can be lived. ” He supported many artists, in his new home he made a studio so that he could record music. Timothy organized many exhibitions, including abroad. He wanted to make films and already shot one as a producer. For me, this person in terms of personality is comparable to Diaghilev. Diaghilev lived longer and managed more. ”

Recently, Musatov was seriously interested in photography and was planning to organize his exhibition. The artist Alexander Zakharov noted that the lawyer spent more than half of his income on organizing cultural events.

“He wanted people there (abroad. - RT ) to see our culture. He is a passionate man. Timothy wanted musicians, artists around him. He united talented people. ”

Among other things, Musatov helped rebuild churches in Russia. So, he supported the Borovsky Monastery and the St. Lavrenty Monastery in Kaluga, where the funeral was held today, friends of the deceased said.

Thanks to his help, the Holy Fire was first brought from Jerusalem to London three years ago. The event was held under the auspices of the Youth Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society.

“God brought us to Timothy in an absolutely amazing hypostasis. I head the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society. And he began to help us. Timothy was an honest, decent, amazingly bright man. Timothy is still alive for us. You know, there are shocking, loved ones by power. Timofey was honest and sincere, ”says Sergei Stepashin, Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society.

Helped everyone

As for advocacy, Musatov, according to people who knew him, was sincerely devoted to his work.

“Timofei Sergeyevich helped quite different people, and very often he got involved in the business. A lawyer must make money by protecting someone; Timothy usually helped someone he protects for his money. For example, protecting Vinnik, Timofey spent his own money - for two years he traveled abroad at least a hundred times to him. Maybe in the beginning Vinnik had some money, and then it was all over, and besides, his wife was diagnosed with cancer. Timofey helped continuously, ”said businessman Igor Ashmanov.

Entrepreneur Natalya Kasperskaya in a conversation with RT said that Musatov was engaged in the affairs of the legal service of InfoWatch.

“We now undertook to distribute the list of cases that Timothy was engaged in with us - he is gigantic, there are several directions at once. We do not yet understand how we can do without him. It’s hard, very hard. He was a multidimensional, complex person. Cheerful and extremely persistent. "

The mother of Alexandra Vinnik, in turn, noted that their entire family was very hard on the death of Musatov.

“I can’t even speak, my land has gone from under my feet, my son’s land has gone from under my feet,” said Vera Vinnik. “Let quarantine and everything is isolated, but I knew that somewhere there is a person who is standing behind me and whom I can turn to at any moment.” Whatever I ask, he will always help. Timofei Musatov was more than a lawyer for our family. Timothy worked for us for free, went to his son for his money. Timothy helped everyone - in short, deed, money. ”
