• Leader..Macarena Olona, the iron lady of Vox

If there is a symbol of the pandemic, this is undoubtedly the mask. Along with gloves, it is the most widely used sanitary material to prevent the spread of the virus, but also an accessory that many have customized to their liking: in the absence of units, some have made it at home with an animal print patch , for example. However, there are those who have gone further and nationalized it. This is the case of the Meseguer couple, a couple affiliated with Vox residing in Bullas (Murcia) who came up with the idea of making units with olive green fabric "Vox color or civil guard they call it" and embroidering on a corner a small flag of Spain.

Success, among his friends in the party, was immediate. They sent a few to the Madrid headquarters and a copy fell into the hands of Macarena Olona, spokesperson for the green formation in Congress, who soon put it on. The photo of the deputy looking challenging to the Prime Minister with the patriotic mask on in one of his speeches went around the world in minutes.

"We remain ojipláticos," says José Luis Meseguer, 62 , to this supplement. "It is a pride, but we would also be delighted that Sánchez used it, of course Santiago Abascal and His Majesty Felipe VI, head of state. In reality, we are not surprised that Macarena is the first to wear it; it is pure courage."

Initially, José Luis's wife, Silvia Buenaño, a 47-year-old Ecuadorian dressmaker and cook , made a few that she donated to the Bullas Civil Guard barracks. They were so successful that they did more for other bodies and State Security forces, adapting them to their uniforms: navy for the local police, oranges for civil protection ... "We gave them away, we only charged individuals," she clarifies. The number of orders grew to such an extent that they had to put a price on them: 4.25 euros per unit. "I can get to make up to 300 a day," he says. "The girls I have hired in the workshop [about 7 people help him], about 50".

The couple has already raised a lot of money, but 45% of what they get they give away in masks. "What we take out, I use to pay for the material and my people, but above all, to help the institutions," adds Silvia, who works tirelessly from 6 in the morning until late at night to meet deliveries. "I have lost seven kilos," he sighs. Silvia has been in Spain for more than 20 years and already has the nationality. His sacrifice is made partly out of gratitude to his host country and also for his mother, a dressmaker, who died seven months ago of cancer. "I also donate masks to associations that help patients with this disease."

José Luis clarifies that his masks are of quality: "They weigh 70 grams per square meter, they are denser than surgical ones, and the fabric (TNT) is primed with polypropylene, like industrial tablecloths, to avoid moisture. They are reusable if the wash at 60 degrees or with hydrogen peroxide. "

The Meseguer, who have five children between the two from previous marriages, have been affiliated with VOX for a year and a half . José Luis, financial consultant, made Policies and belongs to the large group of historical PP voters disappointed with the management of Mariano Rajoy. "My ideas have always been conservative and I felt I had to be more proactive. I knew Abascal's career and I read the 100 points of his manifesto . He convinced me by his logic, his common sense. I went to university in the year 76 and I do know what the extreme right is. Now it turns out that some of us are just for wanting to defend the Constitution and keep the state undisturbed.

Meseguer was Vox coordinator of the northwest area of the province in the last elections and believes that Vox's success in Murcia responds to a natural trend. "The patriot sentiment has never been neglected here . Even the left has always had a certain Spanish nationalist court. We have a feeling of belonging to the State (...). Murcia has always been the forgotten province, it had to have joined the Valencian Community and There have never been relevant politicians ... A change was needed. "

Meseguer does not hold the socialist government responsible for what is happening. It just blames him for his lack of foresight and planning. Its short-termism and tacticism . "Vox what he proposes is to take the bull by the horns, a policy of fiscal attempts at SMEs ... We want to copy countries that have made decisions that work, such as South Korea, to use private companies for the benefit of the State. Look Amancio Ortega what helps ".

But he criticizes Podemos: " There will be no economic and thought freedom with communists in power . They are following the Trotskyist manuals to the letter."
