Specialists Gianluca Rinaldi and Matteo Paradisi studied mortality statistics from February 21, when the borders of the study region were quarantined.
Then, scientists compared it with similar indicators for the previous five years and found that over the period from February 21 to April 4, 2020, the number of deaths in the region was on average five times higher than in previous years.
As experts noted, in early April, mortality was virtually the same as usual. Thus, Italian scientists have confirmed the effectiveness of quarantine measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.
