A former paratrooper of the 1st regiment of the Hussar paratroopers of Tarbes, suspected of having killed his partner, was indicted on Thursday for "aggravated homicide aggravated on spouse" and imprisoned, we learned Saturday from the prosecutor's office of Pau. Thierry Prat, 46, who had tried to end his life by mutilating his throat during his arrest, was placed under arrest warrant at the Tarbes hospital where he is still hospitalized, said the prosecutor of Pau Cécile Gensac, specifying that he had "not denied the facts".

"The incarceration is effective, but for the moment he remains hospitalized under police escort. He will join the detention center when his state of health allows, "said the magistrate. On April 1, the former paratrooper "called his mother to tell him that he had committed" stupidity ". It was she who alerted the Bordeaux police "where she lives," said the public prosecutor in Tarbes, Pierre Aurignac.

Already convicted of violence against a partner

The police officers from Tarbes went to Florence Gandil's home and found her body lifeless. Thierry Prat, who was in the process of divorce from the victim, then tried to attack the police with a stabbing weapon before being arrested. According to the prosecutor of Pau, this man had already been sentenced in 2019 to six months suspended prison sentence for "violence on a partner".

In late March, Secretary of State for Gender Equality Marlène Schiappa reported "indicators" suggesting "that there would be an increase in domestic violence" since the start of confinement. She announced the establishment of "temporary support points" in shopping centers to accommodate victims and the release of one million euros to help associations in the field.

AFP has identified 21 suspected feminicides since the start of the year. In 2019 according to an AFP count, at least 126 women were killed by their partner or ex, i.e. a woman every three days on average.
