At the end of February, the first corona fall in the county was confirmed. One month later, on March 23, the first person died as a result of covid-19 in Uppsala. As the number of coronary-infected patients increases, so does the number of postponed and delayed surgeries as more patients are in need of intensive care.

SVT's statistics show that the number of operations performed in the county began to decrease from week 11, both at Akademiska hospital and at Enköping's laser hospital.

So far, only 1,000 surgeries have been canceled or moved to the Academic Hospital.

- During this period, we have chosen to train staff, about 120 who have staffed additional IVA sites. So for this reason, we have reduced our operating capacity because we cannot operate to the extent we want, says Stefan Hjulström, Production Manager at Akademiska Hospital.

At present, it is unclear when you will be able to operate as usual again, but it is hoped that it will happen this fall.

Half of all non-emergency operations are canceled

SVT News Uppsala has met two people who would have had surgery in April at Enköping's laser, but whose operations were canceled.

Birgitta Dahlström from Uppsala has had problems with her knee since the age of 15, and now 37 years later, she would finally have a knee operation on April 3 at Enköping's laser. An operation that did not recover.

- Now I have so much atros in my knee so it is completely worn out so my entire knee and kneecap would be replaced. I can describe it as someone digging around in the knee with a knife.

Elisabeth Rosengren from Strömsberg performed an operation on her left hip last fall, and now finally she would have to operate the right hip. But the day before the operation she got a call - the operation would not get rid of.

"I have no idea when the surgery will go away, but I take one month at a time," says Elisabeth Rosengren.
