- This is because in some parts of the city we have had fewer school places than there was demand for. This meant that some students would have an unreasonably long route to school, says Marie Åhman, Head of Communication at the Primary School Administration in Gothenburg.

When the management saw where it barked, they made a change.

- We then started reviewing the number of school places to see if we could expand these to make it as good as possible for the students. They applied to us trying to open more school places in the right year classes at different schools. That was the question of a pretty solid job, ”says Marie Åhman.

Western Gothenburg

The places where a lack of enough school places have been evident are found all over Gothenburg, and it looks different for different years.

- But it has been about Western Gothenburg and Askim. But also other parts. What stood out when we got the results of the simulations that was done was that there were too few places for especially the students who are going to start grade seven. But even in other year groups you would get far too long a route, says Marie Åhman.

After looking at the situation, the solution does not become optimal, but significantly better than timers. According to the new planning, those who are going to start grade seven will be notified the first week in May, while other grades can expect to know next week.

student Perspective

So this is not due to the coronas infection and high sick leave rates on the administration?

- No, this has nothing to do with it. When we got the results we simply started from a student perspective, says Marie Åhman.
