The White House said President Donald Trump urged Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed to take steps to resolve the Gulf crisis that has persisted since 2017 after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt declared Qatar a boycott and blockade of the sea, land, and air.
During a phone call between the two sides, Trump stressed the importance of resolving the Gulf crisis and cooperation to overcome the Corona virus, alleviate its economic consequences, and focus on sensitive regional issues.
The White House added that the two sides agreed on the importance of reducing the escalation in Libya, and the necessity of a permanent cessation of hostilities in Syria to allow reaching political solutions in both countries.
It is noteworthy that the Gulf crisis has remained in place since its outbreak in 2017, where Qatar denies support for terrorism and says that these allegations are just an excuse made by its neighbors to boycott it and influence its sovereign decision, and shows its willingness to dialogue without preconditions.
In contrast, the besieged countries insist that Doha should implement a list of demands before resuming relations with it.
In February, Khaled al-Jarallah, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister, affirmed that his country’s mediation to resolve the Gulf crisis continues, and that it has not lost hope despite its frustration.
