The Public Prosecutor's Office of the National Court asks for a sentence of three years in prison for a cover-up crime for the two Mossos d'Esquadra who were escorting former President Carles Puigdemont when he was arrested in Germany .

The indictment has already reached the central investigative court number 6 of the National Court, which has brought the matter and is on duty this week. Judge Manuel García Castellón issued the order in February which concluded the investigation and concluded that there were sufficient reasons to bring the two Mossos to trial.

The jail request is the highest possible for the crime of concealment, which allows sentences of six months to three years. After more than two years, in case of imposing the penalty requested by the Public Ministry, the two Mossos should enter prison effectively. In addition, the prosecutor Emilio Miró requests that the defendants be specifically disqualified during the time of their sentence, which would force their expulsion from the body of Mossos d'Esquadra.

According to the investigation, the two defendants agreed to help Puigdemont on his travels from Helsinki, where he had given a conference, to his home in Belgium for a few days' vacation. And all "despite their status as police officers, and with full knowledge that Mr. Puigdemont had a European search and arrest warrant."

The magistrate's account indicates that “Carlos de Pedro López and Xavier Goicoechea had moved to Waterloo (Belgium) on March 19, having had several days of leave. On the 23rd, an unidentified person asked them to pick up Carles Puigdemont. They left Brussels in the indicated vehicle to Stockholm, where they picked him up. On March 25, a few kilometers from crossing the border between Denmark and Germany, the German Police intercepted them in execution of the Euro-order of the Spanish Justice.

The crime of concealment applies, among other cases, to those who, without having participated in the commission of the crime, help their alleged perpetrators "to evade the investigation of the authority or its agents, or to escape their search or capture."
