As a result of several hot summers, the spruce bark drill has caused great damage to the Swedish forest raw material.

- Seven million cubic meters disappeared due to bark drilling last year in Sweden, says forest consultant Magnus Hedspång on the Swedish Forest Agency.

He urges forest owners to deal with fallen fir trees to stave off the Granbark drills.

In Dalarna, the insect has mainly destroyed forests in the southern county, but as the climate becomes milder, they are expected to be more even north. One way to counteract attacks is to invest in mixed forests, that is, to also have pine and birch in the forest.

On Thursday, several forest consultants were in Rankhyttan and produced video information about the spruce bark drill as it became more difficult due to the pandemic to hold information meetings as usual.
