“Foreign citizens and stateless persons permanently residing in the territory of the Russian Federation have the right to apply for citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simplified manner,” the document says.

At present, when applying for citizenship, foreigners must confirm that in their country they have applied to the relevant authorities with a statement on renouncing their citizenship.

This requirement is excluded by law.

On April 17, the law on simplification of obtaining citizenship, which in particular cancels the requirement to renounce foreign citizenship, was approved by the Federation Council.
