The regime of self-isolation in Russia should be extended for at least another two weeks. This opinion was expressed by the head of Rospotrebnadzor, chief sanitary officer of the country Anna Popova at a meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova with virologists and epidemiologists.

“You can’t stop halfway. Today we are in the phase of severe restrictive measures with only two incubation periods for this disease. In order to stop and be completely sure that we will pass the point of no return, this is extremely small, ”she said.

According to her, at the moment there are still "very high risks of further spread" of the infection if the current restrictions of "at least one more incubation period" are not respected.

“If we hold back and comply with all the requirements that are prescribed, then after some time we need to plan to mitigate the regime of restrictive measures. Different countries use different algorithms, but, in any case, this is, of course, staging. It is impossible to do everything in one moment. These should be different stages, with a different system of restrictions, at different levels, ”the chief medical officer added.

A similar position regarding the need to extend the isolation regime was also expressed by the director of the Russian research anti-plague institute "Microbe" Vladimir Kutyrev. According to him, the restrictions must be maintained at least until May 12.

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova herself stressed that over the period from April 17 to 24, the number of patients with coronavirus in Russia increased by 2.1 times, but the dynamics of the increase in the incidence allows the healthcare system to prepare for the challenges.

“We see that, despite the fact that the president of the country announced a regime of social distance and restrictions on movement before April 30, nevertheless, this is not respected by our people in some regions of the country, which causes quite serious concern,” she said .

Earlier, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there is still time to make a decision on the extension of the self-isolation regime in Russia, so far established until April 30.
