The newspaper has examined so-called mortality in eleven countries or cities around the world, including Sweden. That is, how many more deaths are recorded during a period, compared to normal cases. Subsequently, the newspaper has compared this figure with the number of deaths recorded in covid-19 and calculated the difference, in order to get an idea of how many deaths in covid-19 the authorities may have missed.

In France, for example, about 14,500 - corresponding to 32 percent - reported more deaths during the period March 9 to April 5, compared to an average of the corresponding period in 2010–2018. But during the same period, "only" 8,000 deaths were recorded in covid-19.

No one knows what the difference, consisting of 6,500 deaths. But, presumably, there are a large number of people who died of covid-19, as there is nothing else that can explain the greatly increased mortality during this period.

No darkness

Similarly, the differences between mortality and the number of deaths recorded in covid-19 were calculated for Spain (7,300), New York City (4,000), and England and Wales (6,300). In total, the magazine writes, 28,000 more people have died of covid-19 in these countries than official statistics show.

Belgium is a country that has been in the hot air for its many deaths in covid-19, especially when compared to how low the official figures have been in neighboring Netherlands. However, unlike the Netherlands, Belgium has not only included deaths in health care, but also in the elderly, where people who are "suspected to have died of covid-19" have also been included in the statistics. As a result, Belgium has no dark figure at all, while the Netherlands has a total of 1,900 deaths.

Nor did Sweden have any dark figures in the current review. For Sweden, the period 9 March to 5 April was analyzed, with the death toll being approximately 1,100 deaths, compared with the corresponding period in 2015–2019. During the same period, approximately 1,160 deaths were reported in covid-19, that is, 60 deaths more than the death toll, which can be explained by the fact that the death toll is only a calculated average from previous years.

Tens of thousands more

Unlike other countries, Sweden double-checks all deaths in covid-19 by linking all persons with a diagnosed diagnosis with the population register up to 30 days after the diagnosis. Any deaths are then checked with the health care to find out if they can be presumed dead due to covid-19 or not.

In this way, states state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, Sweden has a very well developed system for capturing the vast majority of covid-19 deaths in Sweden.

According to the New York Times, the investigation shows that tens of thousands more have died of covid-19 than has emerged so far, which goes against the myth that those who die from the disease had died anyway, albeit for other reasons. In addition, mortality can be assumed to be even greater, since it occurred during an extreme period when countries took a number of extraordinary measures, such as social distancing, lockdowns, closed borders, and so on.

-Some of these measures should have had a positive effect on mortality. Therefore, it is likely that mortality would have been even higher without these measures, Vladimir Shkolnikov, demographer at Max-Planck-Institut Für Demografische Forschung, told the newspaper.
